At Sialia, we believe that meaningful change starts with action. Our recent beach cleanup with the students of Feng Gui Elementary School in Penghu was not only an opportunity to clean our shores but also a way to educate the next generation about the importance of marine conservation.
A Shoreline Impacted by the Typhoon
The timing of the cleanup was critical, as a recent typhoon had brought large amounts of debris ashore. Among the trash, we discovered an entangled fishing net—a powerful reminder of the hidden dangers lurking in our oceans. This net had trapped various pieces of garbage, illustrating how abandoned fishing equipment can entangle marine animals, leaving them unable to escape or find food, often leading to tragic outcomes. Removing it from the shore was both difficult and eye-opening, highlighting the urgency of preventing marine waste.
From EPB to Sialia: A Lifelong Commitment to Conservation
For me, this event felt deeply personal. During my 18 years with the Environmental Protection Bureau (EPB) in Penghu, I focused on preventing marine pollution and enjoyed visiting schools to teach children about ocean conservation. Returning to Penghu for this cleanup allowed me to continue that mission. Working side-by-side with the students and seeing their curiosity and enthusiasm reminded me why education is such a vital part of environmental protection.
Sorting the Trash: A Lesson in Action
Once the debris was collected, the next step was sorting it. The students eagerly participated in separating recyclables from waste, learning firsthand how proper waste management can make a difference. This activity showed them the value of recycling and demonstrated how every small action counts in keeping our oceans cleaner and safer.
A Well-Earned Reward: MOS Burgers and Smiles
After hours of hard work, we treated the students to MOS burgers—an exciting treat for many of them. Seeing their happy faces, with one student proudly sharing, "I finished it in just four bites!" brought joy to everyone involved. These moments are a reminder that environmental action can also build lasting memories and community connections.
Sialia’s Mission: Clean the Body, Protect the Ocean
At Sialia, we believe in the philosophy of "clean the body, protect the ocean." Our products reflect this mission, using eco-conscious ingredients and recyclable packaging to reduce environmental impact. But we know that real change requires more than just products—it involves hands-on engagement with communities and a commitment to protect our oceans through initiatives like beach cleanups.
Looking to the Future: A Cleaner, Greener Tomorrow
This beach cleanup with Feng Gui Elementary was just the beginning. We will continue working with local schools, raising awareness, and supporting marine conservation efforts. Small actions, like removing a discarded fishing net or teaching a child about recycling, can have a lasting impact on the environment.
We are grateful to the students, teachers, and volunteers who made this event possible. With each effort we take today, we bring ourselves closer to a future where oceans thrive and communities flourish. Let’s continue making waves for change!
